Volunteerism is a great way to engage employees and professionals in their careers, and offering meaningful ways to make a difference can have a huge positive impact on the culture of any organization. However, keeping volunteers engaged can come with its own set of challenges.

It’s no secret that recruiting and retaining talent is challenging these days, so it’s just as important now as it ever has been for organizations to focus time and energy on building their culture.  Creating a positive workplace culture is even becoming an important factor when candidates are considering position changes.

If you’re seeking opportunities to get involved with your HR community, the HR Virginia State Council has several openings! Volunteering is a great way to give back while building leadership skills and learning bast practices from fellow HR professionals. There are several positions available.

SHRM recently awarded HR Virginia its prestigious Excel Platinum Award for the state council’s accomplishments in 2022. The Excel award is given to state councils and chapters to recognize major accomplishments, strategic activities, and tactical initiatives that elevate the profession of human resources.  

Coping with and Preventing Burnout: Psychological first aid (PFA) frequently takes place either directly in the workplace or because of an emotional wound obtained during work hours. Over the years, I’ve received numerous emotional 911 calls from workers, from a myriad of occupations, to deal with the psychological injury known as burnout.

After a full day of learning, HR Virginia State Conference attendees are looking to making evening plans. Here are some ideas the conference committee has pulled together, in partnership with the Downtown Richmond Tourism Bureau, to help you plan for the “party after the party!”
