HR Excellence Award (HREA) Winner Panel Discussion
Our HREA Award winners faced the following challenges:
The COVID-19 Pandemic changed the way many regular operations functioned. Like every organization, we had to adapt and innovate quickly. One of the major challenges Human Resources faced in the spring of 2020 was how to issue 1300 licensed teacher and administrator 20/21 School Year contracts with HR and school division staff all working remotely. With the closure of school buildings in March 2020, we knew we had to change our process since the standard method was not an option. Another challenge created by COVID-19 was how to conduct orientation sessions for new employees. Typically, each week we would have a group of new hires come to the County Office Building for a two-hour orientation session, facilitated by a member of our HR team. Limitations on gathering size and duration meant that we could no longer hold in-person sessions. Since we hire at least a few employees each week, and several hundred during June and July, we had to come up with a solution quickly.
After the discussion, panelists and board members will lead small group discussions with Charlottesville SHRM members to further discuss and share best practices that have helped them during the pandemic.
